Hunter came into school calmly and respectfully. He got right to work because his first task was to paint his volcano. He did a good job of painting but tried to avoid cleaning up although there was not much to clean up.
Hunter resisted doing math and did very little of it. Hunter put his fleece on and went outside and sat on a chair without communicating to staff where he was going. Staff followed and let him know that he needs to first communicate a need for a break outside. Staff modeled what he might say to communicate. He respectfully said ok. Staff discovered that he had his phone and wanted to listen to something. He was told he could not have the phone and needed to turn it in. At first Hunter said "No, go away." Hunter was reminded of consequences (positive and negative) depending on his choice he made. He came inside and turned in his phone.
Hunter refused to do reading and science today even with 1:1 assistance with preferred staff. He listened to staff read a nonfiction book about cheetahs while waiting for his dismissal time.
