Michael was cooperative and compliant on the hiking field trip this morning. When he returned to school he ate lunch and talked with peers and staff. When it was time to complete a paragraph about his morning, using his graphic organizer, he had difficulty getting on task. He was offered an alternative work space but he said he didn't need one and started to work. Michael continued to have difficulty staying focused and was talkative. Staff suggested a walk and Michael opted to take one. Upon exiting the building, Michael had difficulty getting the door open as it appeared to be stuck. Michael expressed frustration that he couldn't open the door and as staff directed him to a different exit he left the building via a different door that was not designated. Michael then ran down the road and staff followed so that he was in visual contact. Michael's father arrived to pick him up for early dismissal and was apprised of the situation. Michael was seen running by the ramp to the freeway entrance and visual contact was lost. The police were called to report that he might have gone on the freeway. Michael's dad and staff drove to be sure he was not on the freeway. It turned out that Michael did not go on the freeway but instead ran to a nearby road and ran back to school.
